Life Members

After a member serves the company for 15 years, he or she may apply for Life Membership. Life Members are taken off Active Membership status. Living Life Members are invited to the annual event, Old Timers Night, to reconnect with former members and mingle with newer members.

John A. Bertolini is only member of Haddam Volunteer Fire Company to give his life in the line of duty since the company was founded in 1930. On Feb. 15, 1987, HVFC was dispatched to a structure fire. John was riding on Tanker 2-13. After a few hours, the tanker returned back to the firehouse and John complained that he was not feeling well and went home to rest. Within a half hour, HVFC would be dispatched to John’s house. John passed away at the age of 39. John was a 22-year veteran of the department. In 1973, he helped organize the Haddam Junior Fire Corps. He held many positions such as Radio Engineer, Field Day Judge, and he was Department President at time of his death.
John is gone but never forgotten.
